LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Marty Knollenberg recently attended a “thank you” reception honoring a company from his district for making a generous donation to the Blue Star Mothers of America.

Formed during World War II, Blue Star Mothers of America is a private, nonprofit organization providing support for mothers with sons or daughters in active service in the U.S. armed forces. The name came from the custom of families of servicemen to hang a banner called a Service Flag in a window of their homes. The flag included a blue star for each family member in the military.

“It was an absolute pleasure to join these women and discuss the important work they do,” said Knollenberg, R-Troy. “I am beyond moved by their drive to help others and am happy to see a generous donation coming from a local company. It will greatly assist the Blue Star Mothers in pursuing their mission.”
